One thing I know without a doubt is this: California City must become far more aggressive in seeking out grants to sustain and improve our community.
While the city currently uses a consultant to assist with grant writing, it appears the focus has largely been on smaller, more routine opportunities. That’s not enough. There are significantly larger — and sometimes more complex — funding opportunities available that we should be pursuing.
If I am elected, I will move immediately to place an agenda item on an upcoming City Council meeting to open a discussion on our current grant-writing approach. I want a full review of the company we use today and whether it is in our best interest to explore other firms that specialize in securing larger, more competitive grants.
This is about accountability and strategy. I will present my findings publicly so we can have a real discussion and ensure grant funding becomes a top priority for our city moving forward.
Yes, we need to grow revenue — but grants are just as critical. In many cases, they can bring in substantial funding faster and without placing additional burden on our residents.
One major area I will be presenting on is the wide range of grant opportunities available through the U.S. Department of Transportation. There are billions of dollars available at the federal level alone that California City should be actively competing for. You can review those opportunities here:

And this is just the beginning. There are many other grant opportunities across multiple sectors, and I will be addressing those in future posts as I take on specific issues facing our city.
Vote Shawn Bradley for City Council of California City on June 2nd.
I am ready to get my hands dirty, do the research, and fight to bring every available dollar back to our community.
